Nepal is a land-locked Himalayan country lying on the southern slopes of the Himalaya between India and China. Its area is 147,181 sq. km. It is 885 km east to west and 145 to 241 km north to south. The country is divided into three geographical regions.
The elevation of this region spans from 2700m to 8848m above sea level. Its climate is always cold and is home to a small percentage of people in Nepal, this region encompasses eight of the 14 highest mountains of the world over 8,000m including Everest, Dhaulagiri and Annapurna.
Located between the Himalaya and the Terai, the Hilly region runs from 250m to 3000m above sea level. Most (52%) of the population live in this region and can grow many foods, seasonal vegetables and fruit.
The sub-tropical Tarai region spans from 70m to 250m above sea level. This region is a very important area for cultivation in Nepal where almost any food, vegetable and fruits can be grown. The region spans from the Nepal - India border to the southernmost mountain range of the himalaya called the Siwalik, often referred to as the Churia Hills.
Nepali is the national Language of Nepal. Most of the educated people understand and speak English. Inside the country, there are 126 local dialects spoken by people from various ethnic groups.

In Nepal, foreign currencies must be exchanged only through a bank or authorized money exchanger. The receipts of such transaction are to be obtained and retained. It is possible for visitors to exchange foreign currency at the foreign exchange counter at the airport upon arrival in Nepal.

During most of the year fleeces, light woolen and cotton clothes are sufficient for day wear, with warmer clothing necessary in the evening. Thermal and heavy woolen clothing is required during the winter months.
