Trek Route Overview

Day 02 of the trek group reaching Ghorepani 2,850m/9,350ft

The journey begins in Nayapul, a small town about an hour's drive from Pokhara. From Nayapul, the trail gradually ascends through picturesque villages and terraced fields, reaching our first-day destination, Tikehdhunga, while allowing trekkers to immerse themselves in the charming rural landscapes. From Tikehdhunga, the trail takes you through the astounding 3,767 Ulleri steps and crosses villages like Ban Thati to reach Ghorepani.

From Ghorepani, an early morning hike takes trekkers to Poon Hill, where they can witness a breathtaking sunrise over the snow-capped peaks. The sight of the sun illuminating the majestic Himalayas is truly awe-inspiring and leaves a lasting impression.

Continuing the trek, the trail leads to Tadapani, a village nestled amidst rhododendron forests. The vibrant colors of the blooming rhododendron flowers add a touch of beauty to the journey. The trek then proceeds to Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village known for its rich culture and warm hospitality. Exploring the town and interacting with the locals provides a glimpse into the Himalayas' unique traditions and way of life.

After experiencing the cultural and natural wonders of Ghandruk, the trek concludes with a descent back to Nayapul, passing through scenic landscapes and terraced fields. The journey back allows trekkers to reflect on their incredible adventures and appreciate the beauty of the Annapurna region.

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek route permit

You will need permits for the Ghorepani Poonhill trek: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card. The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is a mandatory permit that allows entry into the Annapurna Conservation Area. It helps preserve and maintain the region's natural and cultural heritage. You can obtain the ACAP permit at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu, Pokhara, or at the entry points of the conservation area. The Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) card is another important permit required for trekking in the Annapurna region. It aims to ensure the safety and security of trekkers by keeping a record of their trekking activities. The TIMS card can be obtained from the TIMS counter in Kathmandu or Pokhara

The Best View Point Poon Hill (3,210 m)

Poon Hill, the highest point of this trek, stands at approximately 3,210 meters and offers stunning views of the sunrise and surrounding mountains. To reach Poon Hill, hikers must ascend 360 meters from Ghorepani, which is located at an elevation of 2,850 meters. The views at both sunrise and sunset are spectacular, making it a worthwhile destination.

Rising early in the morning and trekking to Poonhill rewards you with a magnificent panorama of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, including prominent peaks like Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri.

As the first rays of the sun illuminate the snow-capped peaks, the surrounding landscape is bathed in a warm golden glow, creating a truly mesmerizing sight. The tranquil atmosphere at this high vantage point adds to the overall beauty of the experience.

The sunrise from Poonhill is a magical moment that captivates trekkers worldwide. It's an opportunity to witness nature's spectacle as the mountains change colors and come alive with the soft morning light. The panoramic views and the interplay of light and shadow make it a photographer's paradise.

Whether you are an avid trekker or a first-time adventurer, the sunrise and mountain views from Poonhill are a highlight of the Annapurna region trek. It is a cherished memory that will stay with you long after your journey ends.

Trek to the Best Season

The best season for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is spring and autumn. The winter and summer seasons can also be trekked by fewer trekkers, and every trek season has its charm. Here is the difference in the following suggestion through Nepal Spirit Adventure.

From March to May, spring:

During these months, the temperature stays 10-25 °C, with warm days and cool nights. The climate is generally vibrant blue sky, with remarkable mountain visibility. The trail's condition crowds are moderate to high. Due to the springtime, the vegetation is in full bloom, making it best to see more than nine colors of rhododendrons. The trails burst with reds, pinks, and whites, making it the best choice for natural lovers and photographers.

The Autumn Season (September-November):

This season is ideal for trekking in Ghorepani Poon Hill, as it offers beautiful weather and clear visibility for breathtaking mountain views, thanks to the post-monsoon clarity. The climate remains mild, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 °C, featuring warm days and cooler nights. Colorful local villages celebrate the national festivals, Dashain and Tihar, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Autumn is the peak trekking season in Nepal, characterized by excellent conditions and busy lodgings. It's no wonder that trekkers love this time of year!

The Winter Season (December-February):

This season brings cold weather but also a sense of peace, as there are fewer crowds. The landscapes are covered in snow, and the skies are often clear, providing spectacular views of the mountains. However, due to the cold temperatures, especially at night when they can drop below freezing, winter trekking equipment is necessary.

Summer (June-August):

Monsoon time in Nepal, rainy, possible slippery trek path-but lush and less crowded. The risk of landslides and limited views make it less ideal
