Dakshinkali Temple

The Dakshinkali Temple is located approximately 22 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu. It is one of the major religious sites in Nepal dedicated to the goddess Kali. During the Dashain festival, Hindu pilgrims flock to the temple, where animals are sacrificed as offerings to the goddess. Tuesdays and Saturdays are particularly popular days for visitors, as these are considered auspicious for worshiping Kali. Typically, cockerels and uncastrated male goats are offered as sacrifices.

The temple was constructed during the Malla period. According to tradition, the temple was built after the goddess Kali appeared in the dream of a Malla ruler, instructing him to construct the Dakshinkali Temple in an unfamiliar and mysterious place. It is believed that the goddess at the Dakshinkali Temple has the power to grant wishes.
