Local Name

Everest has a few local names such as “Sagarmatha” in Nepali, “Chomolungma” in Sherpa, and Tibetan language both mean great Mother. Mt. Everest at 8,848 m / 29,028 ft, (some have claimed with the latest measurement as 8,850 m / 29,035 ft) straddles the border between Nepal and Tibet, Nepal side known as South Col and North Col from the Tibet side.

First Time Everest Summit

First climbed to the summit by Tenzing-Hillary on May 29th, 1953 AD since then Everest region has been widely popularized with the flow of trekkers, explorers, mountaineers, and expeditions to Mt. Everest and other areas of Khumbu for adventure and in search of mystical Yeti.

Sited Everest Trekking

Everest Trekking is located within Sagarmatha National Park with an area of 1,148 SQ. KMS has located North-East of Kathmandu in the Khumbu region of Nepal. This park includes the highest world mountain Mt. Sagarmatha (Everest), and several other well-known peaks such as Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho Oyo, Pumori, Ama-Dablam, Thermasarkhu, Kwangde, Khangtiaga, and Gyachung Kang. The park was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

Flora and Fauna in Everest Trekking 

Besides high mountains, the Everest area is lined with a lovely forest of fir, juniper, birch, and rhododendron woods, scrub, and alpine plant communities, full bloom of rhododendrons occurs during spring (April and May) although another flora is most colorful during the monsoon season (June to August).

Wild Animals

Wild animals most likely to be seen in the park are the Himalayan Thar, goral, serow, and musk deer. The snow leopard and Himalayan black bear are present but rarely sighted, other mammals seen are the weasel, marten, Himalayan mouse hare (pika), and jackal and languor monkey.

Cultural and Region

During the Everest Trekking Region, we can visit a very old monastery such as “Tengbuche Gompa” and many more, typically villagers are celebrating the Buddhist festival. The park is populated by famed Sherpa people whose lives are interwoven with Buddhist culture, main settlements are Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, Khunde, Thame, Thyangboche, Pangboche, and Phortse. The economy of the Khumbu Sherpa community has traditionally been heavily based on trade and livestock herding.

But with the coming of international mountaineering expeditions since 1950 and the influx of foreign trekkers, the Sherpa economy today is becoming increasingly dependent on tourism.
