The Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour to Lo-Manthang includes two days of exploration inside the capital city of Upper Mustang. The upper Mustang Motorbike Tour in Nepal begins by exploring historical places in Kathmandu Valley. Second-day ride through busy highway to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you can hike Peace Stupa with a Board Ride, and visit the cave to explore  Mahendra cave even we can do paragliding as per our extra required activities. Onwards from Pokhara, the road up to Beni is well paved.

The roads are rough after Beni rides through a bank of Kali Gandaki River. The farther you go we can enjoy viewing the panoramic mountains of Annapurna Himalayan Ranges, Kaligandaki Gorge, and countryside valley views. From Kagbeni we can reach our final destination to Lo Mananthan exploration then continue the motorbike ride back to Kathmandu.

Requirement Tour Permit

The Upper Mustang motorbike tour permit is the most important requirement that are looking for to do the bike tour near the Tibet border from the Nepal side. The trips heading into Upper Mustang (north of Kagbeni) are required to purchase $ 500 of a USD dollars per person permit, which is valid for 10 days. You can even stay longer, but every day after that will cost $50 per day.

Before entering Upper Mustang, you’ll be required to show your permit both on the way and the way out. In addition to the restricted permit, you’ll also need to purchase an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) which is $25 USD per person. To obtain the Upper Mustang Motorbike tour, trekking a minimum of two people is required as per the Nepal government system.

Suitable Motorbike

For your more suitable and comfortable motorbike riding trip to the upper Mustang, dirt bikes are fit but those kinds of bikes are less available in Nepal, and Kathmandu because the daily rent cost is higher. We highly recommend Royal Enfield Classic or Royal Enfield Himalayan. RE Classic is good for heavy bodies and RE Himalayan is suitable for the light body but other company bakes are also available like Bajaj.

Best Season

The best season for the Upper Mustang Motorbike tour is from March to June month and late September to November, both seasons are suitable for bike riding tours to Upper Mustang, and the weather will be clear sky.

During the Winter season is more difficult to reach the Upper part of the Mustang. Monsoon (rainy) months like July – August are also suitable for the Upper Mustang region because it is in a rain shadow, but it can be hard to ride on the muddy road and even could be affected by a landslide route in the lower part of the Mustang.

Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal! As soon as you come out of the Kathmandu airport, you will find our representative waiting for you in the waiting area right outside the arrival lounge. You will be warmly greeted and welcomed by the representative and led to the vehicle. Our vehicle will take you to the trip hotel, most of the time in Thamel, which is a 20-30-minute drive, depending upon traffic, from the airport.

After you check into the hotel, you can take relaxing time on your own as there are no activities scheduled for today, we are happy to collect your original passport to apply for the special upper Mustang motorbike permit by the next day overnight in the hotel.

Breakfast, transfer to the airport as per Pokhara flight schedule about 30 minutes scenic Himalayan mountain view flight to Pokhara, transfer to hotel rest and time for lookup the motorbike as per your requirement.

Breakfast is included at the hotel then start the tour first part of the road level is the paved road to the world's deepest gorge 104 kilometers, long and takes about 3 hours. The rough road begins after Beni. The riding road is a bank of Kali Gandaki River and huge waterfalls. 

Reach Tatopani for lunch break then continue drive to Kalopani. From Kalopani we can see the excellent views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Tukuche Peak, and the Annapurna Himalayan range overnight in the guest House.

After breakfast a bike ride on a rough road through Kali Gandaki river with a scenic Himalayan range of Annapurna, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri. Reach Muktinath (3,800m) where you can visit the holy site Muktinath temple and Buddhist monastery. Ride back down to Kagbeni overnight. Kagbeni has an interesting place to visit that may suit your evening walking overnight in the guest house.

Quite an exciting day today to reach the ultimate destination of this tour, Lo-Manthang. We cross several Mani walls and a big village called Charang to visit Ghargumba. Panoramic Mountain View is always seen as a different angle view.

Today is one of the best walking and hiking mini-trekking days around the famous Lo Manthang, it would be a natural way to explore by foothill journey. You will be exploring the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, which was founded in the 1380s by Ame Pal. Lo Manthang has around 150 houses. 

Tall whitewashed brick and mud walls, gompas or monasteries, and the King’s Palace are the main attractions of Lo Manthang. The five-story King’s Palace is the oldest structure in the walled city and was built around 1400. The King’s palace is situated in the middle of the city. The King and queen reside in the palace; despite mostly being ceremonial kings, villages respect and consult the king on various matters. Further, you will be visiting ancient Gompas.

Visit the famous Champa Lhakang, which features a large statue of Buddha and walls painted with Mandalas. Also, visit a beautiful hilltop Gompa called Namgyal Gompa. The monastery holds social, religious as well and legal significance. Namgyal Gompa also functions as a local courthouse. Visit the 15th-century Thubchen Gompa with a big red assembly hall.

Also, pay a visit to Choprang Gompa, locally known as New Gompa, and get an insight into local culture and tradition. Moreover, Tsechen Shedrubling Monastic School, a part of the Monastic Museum, trains young monks from the area as well overnight in Lo Manthang.

Gorgeous experience!

I had a great experience during the Upper Mustang motorcycle tour, The countryside landscape was beautiful, and had a wonderful Mountain View, The people were so very similar to Tibetan customs and required good skill driving off-road rides. The road condition: From Kalapani to Lo-Manthang offers a good road and from Beni to Ghasa road was difficult and needed to drive very carefully, The other part was awesome, I had a really great time at Lo Manthang and Choser cave, and monastery, thanks for all them of Nepal Spirit Adventure, you had organized my gorgeous trip to Mustang.

Lifetime experience upper mustang

It was our first time in Nepal, south Asia and had a warm dream visit to Upper mustang valley on a motorcycle trip as we loved the bike adventure tours. We found Nepal Spirit Adventure via online search and then inquired immediately Mr. Ram Thapa Magar replied supper fast according to our holiday purpose, his company services were great highly take care of our arrival in Kathmandu, provided good accommodation, arranged a comfortable motorcycle- Royal Enfield Classic 350CC/500CC as per our require.

The drive to Pokhara was fantastic, the highway was so busy but our guide Deepak managed well until returned to Kathmandu. From Pokhara to Lo Manthan was a top classical drive but the scenery was wonderful; we had seen many historical caves, and Buddhist monasteries, and the peoples were so good and friendly similar to Tibetan tradition. All the guest houses were so nice, foods were delicious at every place even though we did not have any problems re-fuelling the petrol along the journey thanks to Nepal spirit adventure for providing such as great trip, especially for Ram we will never ever forget this tour our lifetime experiences.
