About Gosainkunda Lake Trek

Gosainkunda Lake Trek guides you on a scenic and cultural adventure with a touch of old mythology and a holy spiritual walk to Gosainkund Lake, a perfect journey on the high ridges of Langtang Himal situated around the central Himalaya range of mountains which includes Ganesh-Langtang and Jugal Himal range of peaks. The lake is regarded as one of the important and holy pilgrimage spots for both Hindu and Buddhist religions, as per great Hindu myth, the belief is that Gosainkund a pond is the vicarage and is made by Lord Shiva (one of three main Hindu deities).

The Hindu and Buddhist religions believe that this pristine glacial pond was formed by digging of the land by Trishul (a holy Trident) weapon of Lord Shiva, thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims from India and Nepal visit the Gosainkunda every year, especially on full moon day, which falls in August, the special auspicious Hindu occasion of ‘Janai Purnima’ (changing of holy threads) festival. We start the trek with an exciting overland  5-6 hours drive towards the north of Kathmandu to Dhunche the gateway to many Trekking destinations in the Langtang region and the old Trans Himalayan Trade route of Nepal and Tibet.

The trek guides us on a climb into enchanting serene woodlands of tall rhododendron-magnolia-pines and oaks tree lines were elusive and rare Panda seldom seen around this deeply forested area. Our walk finally leads to Gosainkund after walking past the Singh Gompa and Lauribina ridges. We Have a full rest day to explore this fascinating holy place with awesome views of snowcapped peaks, our walk leads to cross a high pass of east Laurabina-La 4,600m/15,091ft also known as Gosainkund Pass to reach the eastern ridges passing some parts of the Helambu area of Kutumsang-Thotung-Danda and Golphu-Bhanjyang to reach Chisapani on the northern hills of Kathmandu valley, here with super views of the sunrise over mountains.

This marvelous and remarkable trekking concludes with a short drive from Sundarijal back to Kathmandu after fascinating Trekking around the high hills of Langtang Himal. The best time to visit there: Spring (March to May and Autumn (September to November) is one of the best seasons for Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trek. The climate is sunny and warm with excellent views, if you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with nature then taking this trip during the winter season (December, January, and February) is also good and could be an option for this trip.

TREKKING MEALS

We provide organic hygienic meals 3 times a day inclusive of your trek package from the local lodge/tea houses as per the choices on the menu. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the same tea house/lodge while lunch would be on the trail. Every Tea House serves the traditional Nepali meal Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), as well as a variety of different food items, such as rice, seasonable vegetables, noodles, potatoes, and soups. Some lodge serves Western foods such as pizza, pasta, and French fries. Soft drinks, snacks, and beer are available in most of the Tea Houses' restaurants. A variety of cereals, bread, and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast.

SAFE DRINKING WATER

Along the trek, safe drinking water is very important while we are on high altitude journey. We recommend that one should drink at least 3-4 liters of water a day (this helps from de-hydration and altitude problems AMS). As long as possible we recommend you buy sealed packed mineral water and can buy it from every local shop and lodge. Remember! River, spring, and tap water are free, we should not recommend you directly drink it even water looks very clean, and should not drink it without adding water purification pills or a filter that will be suitable to drink. You can buy boiled water from every lodge, boiled water, and sealed packed water cost 1-2$ dollars per letter and its cost also depends on where we are from the sea level. So, you need to prepare and pack the extra cost for all the table drinks.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The Holi Gosainkunda Trek is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who can walk at least 5-7 hours a day with a light day pack. Walking at a high altitude is more physically demanding than walking at lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination, we can accomplish this trek. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks before the trip is a good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases need to consult their doctor before taking the trip. It is also advised that you inform Nepal Spirit Adventure of any conditions before booking the trek to minimize the risks of altitude sickness.

RE-CHARGING BATTERIES (electronic items)

We can recharge your batteries, and devices with electricity, or solar power sources. In Nepal, 220 240 volts 50 MHZ (50 Cycles per Second) power is supplied. Just need to have a plug adaptor in case of socket fitting, which you can buy in Kathmandu before the trip since the plugs in Nepal might be different. You might have to pay a small amount of fee/hour for using recharging facilities.

GROUP SIZE

We organize any route of Nepal trek with a fixed departure basis or private trip, the minimum group size would be 1 maximum group size is 10 or more on request. We can also organize a private trip for a solo person with a single supplement cost. Otherwise, join our estimated group departure dates available online market or ask us for your suitable flexible dates, and we will open group dates on the same date.
